Standing Up for Equity: Addressing LGBTQ2IA+ and HIV Policy Challenges

At Big Gay Smiles, we believe everyone deserves care, respect, and the right to live authentically. That's why recent policy shifts under former President Trump are deeply concerning—not just for the LGBTQ2IA+ community but for the future of equitable healthcare and public health progress.
One of the most troubling moves includes the United States’ withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO). This decision not only disrupts global health partnerships but also halts essential efforts like combating HIV/AIDS worldwide. The pause on foreign aid, including funding for the life-saving President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), has left millions at risk. These programs have provided vital HIV medications to over 20 million people globally, saving countless lives. Defunding them sends a message that marginalized communities don’t matter—and we refuse to accept that.
Closer to home, an executive order recognizing only "two sexes, male and female," based on birth assignment, is an affront to the identities and rights of transgender and nonbinary individuals. This regressive policy limits access to accurate identification and critical services, stripping dignity from those who need it most. At Big Gay Smiles, we know that affirming care is life-changing. These policies do the opposite.
The rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the military and beyond threatens to undo years of progress. While the fight for full acceptance in every industry continues, these policies aim to push the LGBTQ2IA+ community back into the shadows. But we won't let that happen.
At Big Gay Smiles, we’re doubling down on our mission to fight discrimination and promote health equity for all. We’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of inclusive care, and we’re here to make sure that no one feels forgotten or invisible. Together, we can raise our voices, educate, and push for policies that value people over politics.
When one of us is under attack, we’re all called to step up. That’s what a community does. And that’s what we’ll keep doing—loud, proud, and unapologetically bold.
At Big Gay Smiles, we’re proud to dedicate 10% of all revenue to funding HIV research because finding a cure isn’t just a goal—it’s a necessity. Our future depends on it, and every single one of us deserves a world free from HIV. Together, we’ll keep fighting for that brighter, healthier tomorrow.
Smile With Pride,
